For this assignment you should begin to develop your plan for the final semester project. At this stage, you should begin to compile a list of needs for your project and if possible, how you initially think you will try to address those needs.
You should also prepare a list of questions you have about the project and any of its components to discuss with Dr. Robin during a scheduled telephone call before our next face-to-face class meeting on July 7.

My project is to create a user guide for the SITE Screening room:
http://site.aace.org/sitevideo/
I checked it out and it looks very simple with barely any content. I tried to create a user account and a ColdFusion error screen came up. So, I guess my plan is to find out more about the site, creating accounts, and usability. I will then either create a short course using Microsoft LCDS or write up a brief handbook, depending on the depth of the material.
My project is to revive the Online Digital Learning Journal.
My first course of action is to contact all of the current editorial board members and inform them about the restoration/evolution of the site that will be taking place. With this letter, I hope to confirm that they are still alive and wish to remain a part of the board and seek any thoughts they may have on the development of the site.
I plan to get in touch with Michael Rapp and find out exactly where the site files have been placed on the UH servers in order to begin making a new template for the site. Once I have contacted him, then I can begin to develop pages that would have fillable forms and find out if the UH server is a ColdFusion server that will allow for reception and maintenance of data from the forms.
If all goes well, by the end of the summer I will have a grasp of who will be involved with the journal and have a new layout in place for future expansion.
My final project is to design a promotional CD and DVD for the IT Program that would go along with one or more of the components in item one of our class projects. I viewed the IT website and made a list of what was actually on the website. The purpose was to find information that would be appropriate for the promotional project. Secondly, I constructed an outline covering all of the areas of the project. What follows is a brief overview of my outline. A more detail outline will be presented in class (space issue).
1. Content/Source
2. Target Audience
3. Means of Distribution
4. Media Resources – Good examples of student & faculty projects – created for presentations at educational conferences- that would showcase the kinds of projects and products that are coming out of the IT program.
5. Primera Bravo SE Disc Publisher: printing disc regardless of operating platform. Duplicator/Printer
6. Coursework Examples:
7. Faculty Projects
8. Construct a letter of invitation to faculty and students.
9. Project Additional Questions
10. Video Concept
I sent this as an e-mail so I am just posting the e-mail here: I tried out several different wiki sites and liked the WetPaint site the best and am planning on using that one unless you think otherwise. Although I have used the PBwiki in the past, I like this one better because it has a discussion forum on each wiki that I think could be useful. A question that I have about setting up the wiki is whether or not to set it so that anyone (including anonymous) can post or that anyone that joins can post. Also, I wanted to see if there is something in particular that you would like for me to name the wiki or just something like University of Houston Instructional Technology. I plan on starting a discussion thread inviting people to ask questions.
I also posted on our blog that I would like to create a Facebook group as another web 2.0 resource. Many people are already on Facebook and I think that it would be beneficial for prospective and current students as well as alumni and faculty as a way to connect and collaborate. Please let me know what you think of this and I will do that as well.
The final task will be the digital stories. I have never created one before and do not know anything about creating one. I'm sure it will be fairly simple (hopefully) but would appreciate a quick crash course with you if possible. I plan on taking pictures around Houston and surrounding areas to create a story for prospective students that do not live in the area, pictures around campus to show various angles of UH, and pictures within the COE and more specifically the computer labs within COE. So, to sum it up I plan on creating 3 digital stories: Houston, UH, and COE.
Sineenart and Shawn will work with Dr. Robin on the new Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling portal.
Dr. Robin asked that Sineenart and Shawn work with his Digital Storytelling website refresh project in order to minimize the possibility that legacy content get lost and to ensure a variety of issues are monitored and fixed throughout the semester. We plan to work on the following items:
a. Analyze the logic and flow of the new DS site;
b. Capture existing, proprietary .WMV files from current DS site
c. Worked with University Media Services to help with transcoding all existing WMV files to streaming media, .FLV, and MP3/4 formats;
d. Analyzed web 2.0 technologies for use/inclusion, and made recommendations to Dr. Robin accordingly;
e. Evaluating the modern and useful appearance;
f. Ensuring that content from the legacy sites are not accidently eliminated from the new site;
g. Verifying content is royalty free or used with permission;
h. Verified all links work and identify link addresses for those that do not;
i. Compared and contrasted various iterations of DS site currently in development;
j. Provided the design team (Louis or Dr. Robin) feedback or modification suggestions
k. Discussed inclusion of a variety of social bookmarking or social networking utilities, and provided Dr. Robin with suggestions for integration;
l. Worked with Dr. Robin and Designer to identify non-standard design elements and structure (layout) and provided direction to designer for implementing change.
We are looking forward to this project and to be helpful in the design process.
